ENGLISH/ESPAÑOL

Happy Wednesday my loves! Let me begin this post sharing one of my favorite looks of the season; a poncho worn  over a turtle neck top tied up at the waist with a wide belt, skinny jeans and OTK boots.  In my opinion it is a look that is super chic. easy to wear and looks great on any body shape.  Hope you like it and feel inspired to create you very own version:-)

And a lesson on being assertive…

How many of you struggle with being assertive and saying NO to people? Ok, I hear you! And, so that you don’t feel alone or like an outcast I want you know that you are not the only one.  Like you, at times I struggle with expressing what I truly want for myself and just saying NO to people.   And why am I being this open and honest with you today?  Because if you are taking the time to visit my blog and read what I write, it is my duty and responsibility to you  to be honest and truthful about myself and what I share.  This is a “poker face” free zone!   I am currently on a journey of self- growth and personal advancement in every aspect of my life and it is my intent and desire to take you along with me (if you want and let me!) so that we can experience and learn together.  I would truly appreciate your wonderful company 🙂

It took me a while to figure out and most importantly to acknowledge such debilitating and very self-consuming behavior in me. I grew up believing that in order to be a good human being it was imperative to always make others happy. I used to think that by putting myself second and everyone else first, I was pretty much earning my front row seat to heaven.  In my mind, saying no to others was a selfish act and not a God-like behavior.  It took me a while to finally understand the rationale behind this erroneous way of being.  It wasn’t until later in my life (very recently!) and in the midst of my very own personal advancement when I finally realized that one of the main reasons why it has been so challenging for me to practice being assertive was because for the longest time I could not deal with assertiveness from others either. In other words, it really affected me very much being told NO or feeling not accepted or liked by others and consequently I didn’t want others to feel the same way.  It is a truth that we are a reflection of how we feel inside so…. there you go!!! And for that reason I took it upon myself to always please others and do what made them happy.  Without knowing the consequences, I chose to live a life filled with fear and deprivation.  I ended up living avoiding new opportunities, closing doors to new adventures and sacrificing my very own happiness and desires to satisfy others.  I got caught up in a very unpleasant and vicious cycle.

And now, I am on a mission to live my life to the fullest doing what truly fills my soul and resonates my heart with joy and happiness. Practicing being assertive has been one of the most challenging  but most necessary goals I have set myself to achieve in this life changing journey of self realization and advancement.  I have come to realize that being true to ourselves not only is our purpose but is also a valuable gift we owe to each other as it is by doing what we really want that we allow God to manifest and do his work accordingly.  We were not created to make anyone happy or be made happy but instead, to be happy ourselves and for that reason, being assertive is one of the most important keys to achieving true happiness.

And remember that we can’t share what we don’t have and we can’t get from others what we can’t find within ourselves.

Have a blessed life!

The military jacket and playing the music in me…

DSC_9447EDSC_9318EDSC_9434EDSC_9456EDSC_9417EDSC_9487EDSC_9631EDSC_9335EDSC_9358EENGLISH/ESPAÑOL

One of the reasons I enjoy having this blog is because it gives me the opportunity to express my creative side with everything I love. It allows me to write about anything and everything I may be feeling inspired by and play dress up with my very own clothes.  It also opens the doors for me to connect with wonderful people from all over the world,  read  their stories and learn from them but most importantly, this blog is the place where I get to play my very own music, sing the songs inside my soul and just be happy being myself. And speaking about being creative, today I decided to re-create a look I saw on a magazine a few weeks ago that showcases a popular military style jacket I frequently spotted on the runways of Milan and New York.  The tulle skirt is from last year and I bought it at an online store  I like very much that carries a wide variety of beautiful skirts (in case you are a skirt lover like me!).  I also chose to wear my favorite pair of reading glasses from the Betsy Johnson eyewear line (I found them at my local TJ Maxx!) that I can’t seem to stop wearing, not only because I can’t see anything up close but because I have gotten so many compliments about them:-)

Being creative is my music ever since I was a little girl. Not knowing any better, I used to think it was all in my head and that I only needed to pursue the things that “made sense” to my mind and to others instead of what my heart felt it was my true path and purpose.  Later on in life, after many years of trials and tribulations and as I got wiser, I finally realized that it isn’t until we find, acknowledge and connect with our true purpose but most importantly, that we decide to pursue it, that we ultimately experience self-realization and true happiness.  I know this may sound like something that could only happen in “fairy tale” kind of stories especially if you are going through challenging times in your life.  But from my very own experience ( and if you know my story you will understand) I can assure you that if we don’t make the time to find and connect with our true purpose and make the CHOICE to pursue it, we will never get to unwrap and enjoy the precious gifts that God have been holding and saving for us all of our lives.  Life is the party where we all get to play the music we have resonating inside ourselves but it is ultimately our choice  and within our power to just DO IT.  Have a marvelous week! Love you all!
