Hello beauties! I really hope you had an amazing first week of the year and that you find yourself ready for an exciting weekend even if like me, you don’t have big plans or are not sure of what you are going to do.  I always anticipate excitement in my life just because you never know 🙂

It is one of my blogging purposes for this year to share more of myself with all of you.  I want to share more about what I do on a daily basis, my personal self growth (it is a daily event and never stops), what I enjoy doing, what works best for me and what really doesn’t.   Since I enjoy dressing up and putting outfits together I will continue sharing different looks just because it makes me super happy and maybe they will inspire and make you happy too:-)  As an example, today I wanted to share you with the things I do to take care of myself and to simply feel good.  Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

10  THINGS I PRACTICE TO TAKE CARE OF MYSELF BOTH INSIDE AND OUTSIDE

Love and accept myself UNCONDITIONALLY – Whether you have an “all around” successful life or find yourself in a place you don’t want to be, LOVE yourself unconditionally and accept the fact that we are not perfect and that second chances do exist.

Practice weight bearing exercise – I know, I know… not an easy thing to do especially when we have a lot going on in our lives but exercising our bodies is super important.   I practice super slow weight training (here) once a week and I love it.  Not only has it made me stronger and helped me maintain muscle mass but it also increases my metabolism and helps my bones stay strong.

Juicing – I try to do a one-day juice fast once a week or every two weeks.  I juice beets, kale, celery, spinach, lemons and add some ginger to spice things up. It flushes my body from toxins and bad eating habits.  It helps me kick start a healthier eating week.  Since life is all about balance and doing what we love, an occasional sweet treat or fried food I also enjoy 🙂  The key is to get back on track!

Take supplements – As much as I try to consume plenty of whole foods, obtaining all the nutrients my body needs from what I eat can be a challenging task.  For this reason I choose to take good quality supplements.   While I am not suggesting you do the same without consulting your doctor, I encourage you to do your very own research to learn more about them.  I have been taking the following supplements for a few years now and I can say with certainty that at 45, I am feeling better than ever.

Spirulina (a whole food that is full of nutrients), Pycnogenol  (a super antioxidant), Fish Oil (great source of Omega-3s, great for skin), Hyaluronic Acid (helps joints and plumps your skin), MSM (not only is it great for your overall wellbeing but it also helps maintain your skin super hydrated and very soft), Green Tea (a super anti-aging among others), Turmeric (a super anti-inflammatory)

Dry brushing – I talked about this on a previous post (here).  Dry brushing does wonders for your skin and helps the body rid itself from toxins.

Visualize wellness – I practice this during my long walks and whenever I have some quiet time.  We are pure love and the same divine energy that makes our hearts beat and our lungs move so we can breathe is in every cell of our bodies.  Acknowledging  that such pure loving energy is within me and runs through all my veins rejuvenates my body and fills me with so much peace.  During my meditations I visualize a healing light going through all my body parts and organs.  It is super uplifting and energizing.

Focus my attention on what I want– If you want health,  think healthy thoughts.  Stay away from negative conversations and people.

Be fearless – Living with fear sickens our bodies.   It weakens our immune systems and creates energy imbalances within our body cells.  I will talk about how to let go of fear on a future post.

Practice deep breathing – Deep breathing releases endorphins throughout the body which are the feel-good hormones created by our own bodies. When practicing deep breathing, the upward and downward movement of the diaphragm helps remove toxins from the organs, promoting better blood flow.  Deep breathing exercises can also decrease stress, relax your mind and body and help you sleep better.

Get a good night sleep – This is something I struggle with especially now that I started blogging while working a full time job.  But I can’t stress enough the importance of getting a good night sleep.   From improving your ability to make better informed decisions to reducing the risks of getting ill, the benefits are amazing and you will be amazed by how good you are going to feel.

¡Hola bellezas!

Super slow training: My weekly routine…

On an earlier post I talked  about the super slow weight training routine I have been practicing for the past 2 1/2 years.  Doing this has made me a lot stronger both physically and mentally and it only takes 20 to 25 minutes from my already hectic week.   Not only is weight training beneficial for maintaining a healthy body shape but it is also essential for building stronger bones (especially as we get older) and a balanced physical and mental wellbeing.  Personally, I feel more productive and happy when I work out.  It empowers me and inspires me to empower others.  And why did I choose super slow?  Before doing this, I used to spend 2 or 3 hours per week at the gym, training with free weights and different types of weight lifting machines.   Even though I felt decently strong and in good shape, I struggled with finding the extra spare time and be consistent. As I mentioned before,  I  first learned about the super slow training from a cycling peer and now, my very good friend and coach, Mr. Gary Anger.  Once I gave this new weight lifting approach a try and continued practicing it for about a month, I was convinced that it was exactly what I needed.  Below are the six different weight lifting machines I do every week.   Basically, I do each exercise, very slowly until Gary tells me to stop (typically after around 3 minutes or so). Then, without resting, I jump to the next one until I am done.   I will admit that it is challenging and painful (yes it hurts!) but as Gary says to me, it is all about making both, the mind and body as strong as they can be.

More about Super Slow…

As stated by Gary, the super slow approach utilizes a very slow lifting speed which improves the recruitment of muscle fibers; enhancing muscular loading and improving workout effectiveness. performing the exercise in this slow discipline fashion results in less force on the body, thus making the exercise safe.  Gary says, “…realizing that our clients want to yield the greatest impact from their investment of time, we are focused on effectiveness and efficiency.”

Benefits of Super Slow:

  • Improved muscle tone and body shape
  • Increased Metabolism
  • Optimum Fat Loss
  • Greater Strength
  • Improved Cardiovascular Fitness and Health
  • Stronger Bones (prevent osteoporosis)
  • More Endurance, Stamina and Energy
