How to make a nutrient and antioxidant packed night serum…

DSC_2013ENGLISH/ESPAÑOL

I have been using essential oils for a while. The more I learn about them the more drawn I am to find ways to incorporate them into my daily skin care routine. I love to mix them together and create serums for my face and entire body. I also use oils in my hair as hair masks or simply to add shine after a good blow dry. In today’s post I wanted to show you how to make a face serum I have been using for a couple of years now and I truly love it. It is packed with powerful antioxidants, omega fatty acids, high concentration of nutrients, anti-inflammatory and skin repair properties. I personally have seen a big improvement in my overall skin tone and texture. Wrinkles near the eye area (crow’s feet) have smoothed out and seem to be less noticeable. Not that I am not willing to embrace and accept the aging process but if I can help my skin to look more radiant and fresh using God given resources, then why not? Even though natural oils are very safe to use, I recommend that you first test a small area of your skin for allergies or any other unwanted reaction from the oils. Also, make sure you get good quality oils. It is important to know that the way the oil is extracted and processed plays a huge role in its quality and healing potential so always look for cold pressed oil extraction. You will find links below to the one’s I found to be the best quality for the money I pay. Hope you all enjoy this post and remember to live life doing what you love without seeking approval or worrying about what others may think of you:-) Love, Ms. Jeannie.

Ok! So here is what you need:

Instructions:

In the empty small bottle add same amounts of the Rose Hip, Marula, Tamanu and Pomegranate oils (make sure to leave some space for the Vitamin E oil capsules). Squeeze 3 to 4 vitamin E capsules to the mix and store in a cool place in order to preserve the serum’s shelf life.

**I personally use this serum at night after applying a retinol cream to my face and before the moisturizer. I will show you on a future post my entire night skin care routine:-).  You must apply the serum before the night moisturizer.

Key benefits of papaya fruit…

papayaENGLISH/ESPAÑOL

Growing in the island of Puerto Rico helped me develop a taste for the papaya fruit.  We actually had a couple of trees in our backyard that were always producing this wonderful fruit all year around.  My mom used to make smoothies and also a sweet desert called “dulce de papaya” that tasted amazing when eaten together with fresh cow’s milk cheese.   These days, not only do I still enjoy eating this colorful and flavorful fruit, but I am also thrilled about its health and topical uses.

The papaya fruit is packed with antioxidants; it contains carotenes, lots of vitamin C and flavonoids. It also contain the B vitamins, folate and pantothenic acid; the minerals,  potassium, copper and magnesium; and last but not least, a significant amount of fiber.  Consuming papaya can provide our bodies with protection against heart disease and colon cancer and also promote good digestive health. Papaya contains an enzyme called papain which is commonly used as a meat tenderizer and is also one of Nature’s best anti-inflammatories and skin exfoliators.  Applying papaya to the skin provides an amazing tightening, as well as brightening effect. It’s abundant in natural alpha-hydroxy acids (AHA) which is an ingredient in most of the expensive anti-aging skin formulas.  It also acts as a gentle exfoliator as well as a skin brightener.  Whenever you exfoliate the dark, dead skin cells, the skin will appear lighter, brighter, clearer and more youthful looking.

Since I live in Florida, I can grow papayas in my very own backyard and when not in season they are easy to find at any local fruit and veggies market.  I enjoy making papaya smoothies like the one I made today.  I also love eating the ripe fruit by itself, without the skin as a dessert or a snack. It is super sweet and very refreshing, especially during the hot and sweltering summers here in Florida.  The seeds have a peppery taste so I sometimes add them to my vinaigrette dressing recipes.  I also use the papaya fruit to make a face mask.  I simply mash a couple of pieces, spread the pasty mix all over my face and leave it on until it dries out or for about 10 to 15  minutes.  I finally clean my face with lukewarm water and gently dry using a clean towel.  The papaya mask leaves my skin bright, soft and super tight.  Try it yourself and you will see!

Below is one of my favorite papaya smoothie recipes and the one I made today.   Don’t get discourage by the smoothie color, it actually tastes really good:-) Enjoy it!

And remember that just as God created us, he created everything we need to take care of our bodies. We just need to make use of it and have faith.  Have a wonderful weekend and as always many blessings to you all:-)

Love, Ms. Jeannie.

DSC_0841EMs. Jeannie’s Papaya Smoothie

4 cups of ripped papaya chunks

2 big handfuls of spinach

 ½ cup vanilla protein powder

2 cups vanilla almond milk

1 to ½ cups of Ice

Note: if you don’t think it is sweet enough for you, add stevia (½ tsp. at a time) to make it sweeter.  I didn’t add any as the protein powder I used, made by the company Arbonne, has stevia in it.   Out of all the protein powders I have used, this is the one I like the most.  Not only does it have a great flavor, but it also contains 20grams of protein per serving, it is vegan and is packed with antioxidants and vitamins.DSC_0851E

papaya
