Hello magnificent beings! It is already Wednesday, Dec 30th and I am back home from a short vacation in wonderful Europe. I spent half of my time in London and the other half in Paris visiting historical places, sightseeing and drinking lattes at every little café I found.  I have to admit that I wasn’t too excited about visiting Paris after what happened there last month but cancelling or changing the trip wasn’t an option and I am very glad I didn’t because I ended up having an amazing time.  I simply made the CHOICE to have a marvelous time.  And luckily, the value of the U.S. dollar in euros was actually good (almost one to one) compared to all the previous years so shopping in Paris was definitely great.  I finished my Christmas shopping and I ended up buying for myself a very wanted belated birthday present and a Christmas gift:-)

And speaking about making choices, I spent my entire trip back to the US meditating about such powerful phrase. We all know that life is about making choices and if you really think about it we are “choosing” all day long.  We choose to get up, brush our teeth, eat breakfast and go to work.  We choose to go to the bathroom (ok, ok! Sometimes we HAVE to go but if you really look at it from a different angle we are actually choosing not to pee in our pants!).   We live on an automatic “choosing mode”.  But this is not the type of “choosing” I want to talk about today.  The one I am making reference to comes from within, requires lots of consciousness and has very little to do with the automatic mind; it is the “life changing” and amazingly divine one.

We all have the power of choice. It is a power that can only be accessed in the moment and requires a significant amount of inner strength and determination but once mastered will certainly bring to your life lots of pure joy, inner peace and happiness.  It requires total detachment from the mind so that it doesn’t pull you to go in an undesired direction.  As an example, I was getting a little anxious about visiting Paris but once I made the choice to just have a great time, everything changed.  Don’t get me wrong, my mind tried very hard to convince me otherwise but once I made the conscious choice to have a great time, it actually stopped.  I visualized myself cutting the string that was pulling me to think negative and consequently feel bad.  The same applies to everything else in our life.  At any moment we have the choice to feel good,  be happy, and react in divine ways to any situation without letting anything or anyone take our peace away.  We can choose to be our best and nothing less.  We also have the choice to follow our dreams and passions and do what we feel is best for us.

We all have the power of choice my beautiful friends. Let’s own it and make use of it. Have a blessed life!

ENGLISH/ESPAÑOL

Happy Wednesday my loves! Let me begin this post sharing one of my favorite looks of the season; a poncho worn  over a turtle neck top tied up at the waist with a wide belt, skinny jeans and OTK boots.  In my opinion it is a look that is super chic. easy to wear and looks great on any body shape.  Hope you like it and feel inspired to create you very own version:-)

And a lesson on being assertive…

How many of you struggle with being assertive and saying NO to people? Ok, I hear you! And, so that you don’t feel alone or like an outcast I want you know that you are not the only one.  Like you, at times I struggle with expressing what I truly want for myself and just saying NO to people.   And why am I being this open and honest with you today?  Because if you are taking the time to visit my blog and read what I write, it is my duty and responsibility to you  to be honest and truthful about myself and what I share.  This is a “poker face” free zone!   I am currently on a journey of self- growth and personal advancement in every aspect of my life and it is my intent and desire to take you along with me (if you want and let me!) so that we can experience and learn together.  I would truly appreciate your wonderful company 🙂

It took me a while to figure out and most importantly to acknowledge such debilitating and very self-consuming behavior in me. I grew up believing that in order to be a good human being it was imperative to always make others happy. I used to think that by putting myself second and everyone else first, I was pretty much earning my front row seat to heaven.  In my mind, saying no to others was a selfish act and not a God-like behavior.  It took me a while to finally understand the rationale behind this erroneous way of being.  It wasn’t until later in my life (very recently!) and in the midst of my very own personal advancement when I finally realized that one of the main reasons why it has been so challenging for me to practice being assertive was because for the longest time I could not deal with assertiveness from others either. In other words, it really affected me very much being told NO or feeling not accepted or liked by others and consequently I didn’t want others to feel the same way.  It is a truth that we are a reflection of how we feel inside so…. there you go!!! And for that reason I took it upon myself to always please others and do what made them happy.  Without knowing the consequences, I chose to live a life filled with fear and deprivation.  I ended up living avoiding new opportunities, closing doors to new adventures and sacrificing my very own happiness and desires to satisfy others.  I got caught up in a very unpleasant and vicious cycle.

And now, I am on a mission to live my life to the fullest doing what truly fills my soul and resonates my heart with joy and happiness. Practicing being assertive has been one of the most challenging  but most necessary goals I have set myself to achieve in this life changing journey of self realization and advancement.  I have come to realize that being true to ourselves not only is our purpose but is also a valuable gift we owe to each other as it is by doing what we really want that we allow God to manifest and do his work accordingly.  We were not created to make anyone happy or be made happy but instead, to be happy ourselves and for that reason, being assertive is one of the most important keys to achieving true happiness.

And remember that we can’t share what we don’t have and we can’t get from others what we can’t find within ourselves.

Have a blessed life!
