ENGLISH/ESPAÑOL

Happy Friday everyone!  I can’t believe we are already at the end of the week and that there are only SIX days left until Christmas. For many of us this means having to hurry up to get our shopping done, finish wrapping everything we bought and place it all under the Christmas tree.  Sounds kind of stressful to me, doesn’t it?  I am sure we all know the true meaning and joy of Christmas and it is certainly not to fill our sacred bodies with unnecessary stress and worry.  However, it is the perfect time of the year for all of us to practice generosity and the gift of giving.

Giving to others is a great act to practice and a way to show how much we care.  Giving is a virtue and should not be taken as an obligation.  It is an opportunity for us to love somebody else.  It should come from the heart and be a way to show our appreciation for others.  Its value shouldn’t be measured by its price tag or the money we spend.  Actually, the most giving human beings I have met in my life don’t necessarily give expensive gifts.  Their gifts are priceless and sometimes invisible to the human eye; they give their experience, their talents and most importantly, they give themselves.

Giving is an act of love and as we all know, love has many languages and even though I personally enjoy getting bags, shoes or anything cute I can wear (hint, hint, Dave!) sometimes what we need the most has nothing to do with a purse, a pair of boots or anything close to that .  I am not saying that now we all have to go home and return all the gifts we bought.  What I want to convey is the true meaning behind gifting which is to give with purpose and from the bottoms of our hearts; To give with love and because we really want to give and most importantly to open our hearts to listen and understand what it is that the person we are giving wants and really needs.

The best gifts I have personally received in my life are the ones I received during the Christmas Season of 2009 when I had to spend the entire Holiday time in the hospital with my youngest daughter Andrea.   I had people give me beautiful books filled with wonderful words of wisdom; coolers filled with great healthy snacks, baskets filled with toiletry items  and colorful blankets to cheer us up and keep us warm.  I even had a group of friends come to decorate Andrea’s room and put up a small but beautiful Christmas tree.  I will always treasure and be thankful for everything I got but the gifts I will remember the most are the visits and company from my friends and loved ones and the unconditional love and support I received when I needed it the most.

Sometimes, less is more and even though we all love to receive nice gifts and everything we wrote on our Christmas list when it comes to giving, the best gift we can give is the gift of ourselves.  Have a blessed day:-)

Love, Ms. Jeannie.
