The chambray or denim shirt has been around for quite a long time. I honestly don’t remember having one or seeing many of them, growing up in Puerto Rico; however, I will admit that the chambray shirt has become one of the staple pieces in my closet. It wasn’t until I started working for the Navy, 23 years ago, that all of the sudden I started seeing chambray shirts everywhere. As you may already know, the chambray shirt paired with a denim trouser was the typical US Navy sailor uniform back in the 1990’s .
And what is Chambray exactly? It looks like denim but it is not. It is made out of a lightweight woven fabric of an indigo color (color intensity can vary from a lighter version to a darker one) and it is generally used for tops and skirts. I personally own two chambray shirts and I love them both. This one in particular has been in my closet for quite a while and I am sure it will continue to be. Although, I am sure I can come up with many more ways to wear a chambray shirt, my goal today was to show you three different ways. I promise I will show you more ways in a future post! Actually, if you go to one of my earlier posts (the romantic maxi skirt look) you will see another way to wear the same chambray shirt!
For the first look, I chose to pair the chambray shirt with a pair of hunter green skinny jeans and a pair of cute soft pink stilettos. For the second look, I decided to pair the chambray shirt with bright yellow shorts and nude strappy wedges. For the third and last look, I paired the chambray shirt with a girly flowered skirt and suede ankle strap wedges. In all three looks I used the same leather envelope bag. This one in particular was created by the very talented “Latina” designer, Diana Nieto. It is colorful but elegant and adds the right amount of pizzazz I was looking for. Las blusas de cambray (lienzo) o vaqueras han existido por mucho tiempo. Honestamente no recuerdo haber tenido ninguna ni haber visto muchas de ellas en Puerto Rico, lugar donde crecí. No fue hasta que comencé a trabajar en la Marina de los Estados Unidos, hace 23 años, que repentinamente comencé a ver blusas y camisas de cambray por todas partes. Como ya saben, el uniforme típico de los marineros de la Marina de los Estados Unidos en los años 90 era una camisa de cambray combinada con un pantalón de mezclilla. Sin embargo tengo que admitir que actualmente se ha convertido en una de las blusas clave de mi clóset.
¿Y qué es el cambray exactamente? Pues parece mezclilla, pero no lo es. Es un tejido muy fino de algodón y de color añil (azul oscuro), pero el tono puede variar desde muy claro hasta muy oscuro. Se utiliza generalmente para confeccionar blusas y faldas. Yo personalmente tengo dos blusas de cambray y me encantan. La que llevo hoy ha estado en mi clóset por varios años y estoy segura de que permanecerá en él por mucho tiempo más; sé que puedo crear múltiples combinaciones con ella. Hoy quiero mostrarles tres maneras diferentes de usarla y les prometo que en el futuro les mostraré varias más. De hecho pueden ver otra combinación con esta misma blusa en uno de mis primeros escritos que se titula “The romantic maxi skirt look”.
En el primer look combiné la blusa de cambray con un pantalón ajustado de color verde y zapatos de punta fina en rosado claro. En el segundo la combiné con unos shorts en amarillo y plataformas con tiras. Para el tercero preparé la combinación con una falda floreada y otro estilo de plataformas. Para los tres looks usé la misma cartera de piel de tipo sobre. Esta en particular es una creación de la talentosa diseñadora latina Diana Nieto. Es muy colorida, elegante y le da el toque de glamour que buscaba.
